Abstract

There are four levels of health prevention: primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary. The objective of this review was to draw a parallel between the line of obstetric care available in cases of neural tube defects and the prevention levels, highlighting the levels of evidence for the recommendations at each scale of prevention. Neural tube defects are congenital anomalies related to neuroaxis malformation that may affect the skull and/or the cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacral spine, leading to secondary disruptions or deformations.
