Introduction: Lipschutz ulcer is characterized by lesions in the vulvar region, which may be multiple or single, are often painful and unrelated to sexual activity or transmission. It is a self-limiting condition and affects the pediatric population, with a higher prevalence between 11 and 16 years of age. Objective: The study aims to clarify the diagnosis of vaginal ulcers and inform health professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of Lipschutz ulcer. Methods: An integrative literature review and qualitative narrative synthesis were carried out, using articles from the United States National Library of Medicine (PubMed) platform, published between 2014 and 2024, obtained by searching with the keyword “Lipschutz ulcer”, which resulted in the selection of 53 articles. Results: The etiology of the disease is unclear, although it is related to previous contact with viruses such as Epstein Barr, cytomegalovirus, coronavirus, influenza and paramyxovirus. The lesions’ clinical similarity and similarity of presentation compared with sexually transmitted infections allows for misdiagnosis, requiring additional tests to assist in defining the case. Treatment of cases is symptomatic with analgesics and local cleaning, with few reported cases requiring hospitalization and antibiotic therapy. Conclusion: It is concluded that there is a gap in medical knowledge about vaginal ulcers of non-infectious etiologies, but this is a complaint that has a great impact on morbidity during the period of infection. Thus, health professionals are often not qualified to address the subject.
